I am a tech entrepreneur for the last 20 years. At our time, a start-up was a service company like ours that could provide outsourcing services. Took a plunge of faith to get our company started in Dehradun when even a reliable internet connection was a big thing. Thanks to the support from STPI we managed to grow and build something. Now we have moved up the ladder from job seekers to job creators and NGIS is a great initiative from STPI to bring that change.
Dehradun has advantages like great schooling, universities, and the presence of IIM and IIT nearby. Because the population is highly educated working at some of the best places in the world, we can leverage that connect to further mature other activities like service providers for start-ups, research, and funding. Big companies have their offices in the NCR region which is not far away. Support – Initiatives such as NGIS coming to Dehradun would be big support for budding start-ups with access to talent, funding, and infrastructure.
I see a lot of talent returning to Doon for new opportunities and I am sure hard times bring the best out of us. We have started seeing some good start-ups already coming out of the system and the future looks bright. Patanjali is the biggest example of a successful start-up that used personal branding for disruptive growth.
